The director’s goal for this production was to evoke a sense of nostalgia, of the kind found in A Christmas Story, which sees the world through rose-colored glasses, but is also aware of the deep humanity of the people we meet. To that end, while the costumes were grounded in period research, they were not heavily-worn, and the color palette was brighter and less sophisticated than I would have created for a less stylized script.
