THEA 3333: Irish Theatre
Catalogue Description: Studies the theatre of Ireland from the Abbey Theatre through the present. Covers Irish theatre movements and plays by significant playwrights from W.B. Yeats to Brian Friel and beyond.
Course Objectives: Students in the course will:

Gain an understanding of the development of Irish theatre and drama as distinct from that of England,

Be able to articulate some major themes of Irish drama in the twentieth century as a part of the analysis of playtexts,

Be introduced to the major playwrights and producing companies of Ireland in the twentieth century,

Apply the broad discussions of the course to a deeper analysis of a selected research topic.
